BITUTHENE® GLM is a one-component, elastomeric, liquid-applied waterproofing membrane for variety of applications including basements and flat decks, and for use in conjunction with Bituthene sheet waterproofing membranes.

Applications

Bituthene GLM is a one-component, liquid-applied waterproofing membrane for both vertical and horizontal applications, detailing and basement applications.

Bituthene GLM may be used as a stand-alone waterproofing system or in conjunction with Bituthene sheet waterproofing membranes as a detailing aid and for smoothing out rough concrete substrates. Bituthene GLM cures to a very smooth, tough and flexible rubber-like waterproofing layer.

Bituthene GLM is ideal for waterproofing for both concrete and masonry and may be used in both new construction and retrofit applications. Typical applications include foundation walls, earth sheltered structures, and split slab construction, both above and below grade, such as plaza areas and parking decks. Interior uses may include mechanical rooms, kitchens and bathrooms.

Bituthene GLM is ideally suited for use with Bituthene sheet membranes as a:

  • Fillet and reinforcement material at inside corners

  • Flashing materials around drains, protrusions, curbs and parapets

  • Sealing material at terminations

  • Repair material for defects on concrete surfaces

Installation

Substrate Preparation

Surfaces shall be dry and free from dust, dirt, grease or other contaminants. It may be necessary to wire brush areas where dirt or scale cannot be removed, with a stiff broom.

Check surface for cracks, splits, flashing, coverings, and so on. Where cracks exceed 1mm, they must be filled with fabric matting, followed by a liberal application of Bituthene GLM.

Bituthene GLM should be applied directly from the pail. For priming purposes, please consult your local GCP representative.

Liquid Membrane Installation

Apply Bituthene GLM by brush or roller. Normally a minimum of two coats is required, unless a trowel method of application is adopted. Thickness for two coats in total will be 0.8 to 1.0mm (dry film thickness) or 1.0 to 1.2mm (wet film thickness).

Where Bituthene GLM has to be applied to a height of above 500mm from the floor level, a wire mesh is recommended to be fixed prior to applying the protective render to prevent cracking and to improve adhesion.

Bituthene GLM shall be allowed to cure for 24 to 48 hours before ponding or flood testing.

Coverage

Recommended coverage is approximately 0.8 to 1.2kg / m2.

Supply and Storage

Each 20kg pail of Bituthene GLM in unopened containers and kept in a cool, dry area can be stored for up to 12 months.

Safety and Handling

Bituthene GLM may be harmful. Special precautions are required when used in confined areas. Please refer to Bituthene GLM Material Safety Data Sheet before use.
